Recent Aquisitions - Autumn: Petworth

This exhibition combines recently acquired works from across the gallery's areas of specialism. 

Featured in the equine section are three paintings by Sir Alfred James Munnings (1878-1959), including a rare war work depicting two draught horses during the artist's time with the Canadian Forestry Corps in 1918. Also included is a watercolour of the start of the Hunt Cup at Ascot by Lionel Dalhousie Robertson Edwards (1878-1966) and a large chalk racing scene based on Aintree by Cecil Charles Windsor Aldin (1870-1935).

Topographical subjects include a nineteenth century watercolour of the Citadel of Saladin on the Mokattam Hills in Cairo by George Price Boyce (1826-1897), a view of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice by Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971) and a painting of Kensington Palace by Claude Muncaster (1903-1974).

Also featured are naval engagements by Peter Monamy (1681-1749) and Dominic Serres (1722-1793) and two 1930s paintings of geese by Sir Peter Markham Scott (1909-1989).
