Rountree Tryon has had a presence in London’s West End since 1959 when Aylmer Tryon opened the first premises on Dover Street. Since then, the gallery has also been located on Cork Street and Bury Street, and the current space in 19 Ryder Street is in the gallery hub of St James’s.
The office here is managed by Associate Director Rowland Rhodes who joined the business in 2009 following a graduate internship at Christie’s. Rowland studied Fine Art at Newcastle University and takes a particular interest in the twentieth century section of the gallery, including the work of Charles Pears and Norman Wilkinson. Works can be viewed in Ryder Street by appointment and Rowland is in the gallery Monday to Friday to welcome visitors and answer queries by phone and email.
In July 2022, the gallery exhibited works in this space as part of London Art Week, including paintings by George Stubbs, Sir Alfred Munnings, and Sir George Clausen. In May 2023, the London gallery held Rodger McPhail’s 25th solo exhibition and in June 2023, Rountree Tryon held its inaugural Tryon Contemporary show, showcasing works by some of the gallery's most renowned contemporary artists at Gallery 8, Duke Street, just around the corner in St James’s. Rountree Tryon also regularly exhibits at fairs in London including The Treasure House Fair in June LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair in September.
