John Dalby was an English painter of horses and sporting scenes who lived in York. His father, David Dalby (1794-1836), was also a notable sporting artist. Like his father, John Dalby did not exhibit in London but predominantly worked for private patrons.
Paintings by Dalby can be found in the collections of the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, and the Yale Center for British Art.
