When heading out to find scenes to paint, I spend much of my time looking up at the sky as this is the source of the atmosphere that is so vital in a painting. In midwinter, the skies are often far more dramatic and the golden hours of dawn and dusk seem to stretch out further too, as the sun stays so much nearer to the horizon.
