This race on 17th May 1819 took place at York racecourse over 2 miles, and was titled 'A sweepstake of 20 gns each'.  The race was won by a previously unnamed grey colt owned by Mr T.O. Powlett (subsequently named 'The Marshall').  In second place was the famous horse 'Blacklock' in the owner Mr Watts' harlequin coloured racing silks.  Blacklock had an extensive racing history. especially in Yorkshire, as well as going on to become a successful stallion at stud, the line of which still survives today.  In third place was Ranter followed by Torchbearer, Cardenio, King Corney and Caroline in last place.
