Princess Royal, the second ship in Beatty's line of six battle cruisers, is seen following the flagship Lion which is making a turn to port. Early in the Run to the South Indefatigable, the last ship in the line, had been hit by several shells which caused a terrific interior explosion. The ship disintegrated, with all her crew. Some 20 minutes later a similar disaster overtook Queen Mary, the third ship in line. Following this, the admiral coolly ordered a turn of two points towards the enemy, closing the range. Simultaneously, he launched destroyers on a mass torpedo attack against Hipper's five battle cruisers.
